Step 12: Retain Your Sense of Wonder
Rachel Carson said she wished she could be present at the christening of every child (like a good fairy) to make sure they were given the gift of keeping their sense of wonder throughout their entire lives. This is truly an incredible and yet entirely simple way of living that will affect your entire life and the lives of those around you.
Child-like curiosity while going about your daily activities for optimal health? Yes.
When you view the world as a place full of mystery and adventure that promises explorations, discoveries and the most abundant and fascinating beauty, the entire universe becomes our oyster while concerns, worries, struggles, stress and even poor health lose some of their magnitude and grip on us.
When we are full of wonder, everything is abundant and beautiful, and abundance and beauty can’t help but create an atmosphere of health and wellness. Boredom ceases to exist. A generally amazing time will be had by all. When we view the world as a delightful puzzle and look at everything with fresh eyes that are thrilled with the little bits of lovely beauty and interesting pieces, our minds (and often our bodies as well) stay active and young. Retaining this sense of wonder is essentially finding the fountain of youth, and isn’t that what everyone is searching for? We try diets, read articles, pick up magazines with headlines that promise this, seek out exercise programs, gurus, vitamins, food, etc., all in search of this always elusive miracle…and really it’s so simple and within ourselves.
Don’t you think you’re worth all of this? Do it for the world community, but mainly do it for you.
It’s really very easy. Just remember what it felt like to be a child, remember that innocence and sense of everything being a new adventure just waiting to be explored. Remember that feeling of being truly in the moment as you skip, hop, grin, giggle, blow bubbles, color, watch the clouds, pore over books (try ones that only have pictures!) and PLAY!
Playing invokes the child within and when that child and the accompanying sense of wonder and innocence is allowed to flourish and guide your actions, your health will be amazingly vibrant as stress levels go down and the aging process slows down, which leaves you able to do more of the things that truly matter… like playing!!
Playing and generally finding the fun in life are the most age defying, health-affirming and transformational things you can do, bar none, as well as one of the easiest steps you can take, starting right now in this exact instant.
Over the next few days…
Let others find you PLAYING! That child-like innocence can get looked over so easily, and some feel it is quite buried. Start to really discover your own inner child. Talk to him/her.
Remember when you wanted to be an astronaut, maybe a schoolteacher, or an inventor? That passion is still there. Daydream. Draw outside the lines. Live freely.
Take a deep breath, smile, and begin to savor your newfound health and vibrancy. Bless you along your journey.
I Believe in You,
